Meet The Tor Team

about tor equine

Richard graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 2002, having previously attained a BSc in Animal Science at the University of Leeds and has been in equine practice ever since. He started his veterinary career in Shropshire before moving to Devon to join St David’s Equine Practice in 2007. In 2016 he made the bold decision to set up Tor Equine Veterinary Practice and the rest, as they say, is history.

Richard covers all aspects of equine work but has particular interests in lameness, wound management, sarcoids, equine dentistry and anaesthesia. Richard has lived in Devon since 2007 and very much considers it ‘home’, he is married to Katharine, a small animal vet, and has three gorgeous children and the World’s Worst Dog – Mr Smith and the World’s Best Cat – Piglet. Richard spends all his spare time with his family. He’s a keen runner, surfer and snowboarder and can occasionally be found ‘Treading the Boards’.

Beth graduated from Liverpool Vet School in 2019. She started her career working in mixed practice in Lincolnshire, before moving to Tor Equine in October 2023. She has a particular interest in lameness and wound management, but loves all aspects of equine work and horses in general!

Outside of work, she enjoys grassroots eventing with her horse, Pepsi. She also spends a lot of time walking on Dartmoor with her spaniel, Posy, who you'll definitely see out and about in the passenger seat of the car or in the office at Beech Trees!

Joe graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. Following graduation, he spent 2 years working in mixed practice in Dumfriesshire before moving to Devon in 2017. He worked in mixed practice in Devon for a year before moving into equine practice in 2018. He joined the Tor Equine team in 2024.

Joe enjoys all aspects of equine practice but is particularly interested in internal medicine and reproduction medicine. He completed further study in this area and attained an RCVS certificate in Equine Internal Medicine in 2024.

When not working you will often find him walking with his boisterous dog Erin who also accompanies him on visits.

Charlotte joined the team at Tor Equine in September 2024 and has loved getting to know all of our clients. Those who've already met Charlotte know she loves nothing more than a chat over a cup of tea!

Charlotte grew up with horses in Somerset and enjoyed competing with her local riding club at venues such as Bicton Arena, Chard Equestrian and King Sedgemoor EC.

Charlotte particularly enjoys lameness investigations and diagnostics, as well as anaesthesia for the surgical cases we have come in to our practice at Beech Trees.

In her free time you'll find Charlotte paddleboarding or on a country walk with her springer spaniel, horse riding or playing football.
